Violet grows into quite the legendary Doll, with famous clients being her patrons, but privately the most meaningful letters she writes are to the departed Major Gilbert. Postal Company and lives a quiet life, dutifully writing for her customers and all the while attempting to accept the numbing grief and remaining trauma from her experiences in the war. Years after the end of the war, Violet attempts to live a normal life by becoming an Auto-Memory Doll, typists who are hired to convey emotion and feeling in various pieces of writing by clients. One day, following Major Gilbert’s death in an attack that lost Violet both of her arms, the girl is fitted with advanced metallic prosthetics. Initially sent to war as a child soldier, a blond girl is taken in by Major Gilbert and given the name Violet by him in the hope that one day she would escape her life and be as beautiful as her namesake-flower. These letters were penned years ago by Violet Evergarden, a famous ghost-writer. ![]() In the present day, a young girl discovers a box filled with letters addressed to her late grandmother. Set in a European-inspired world, Violet Evergarden: The Movie follows the titular character in the aftermath of a brutal conflict. The protagonist of this post’s movie, however, doesn’t always experience happy feelings whenever she sits down to type. As someone who enjoys writing, it’d be a joy to have. Like, for a long time now I’ve always wanted a working mechanical typewriter, for instance. Whenever something was considered retro, old-fashioned or out of fashion, I’d be there sooner or later.
